By Patty Schneider Pfister On October 25, 2014 at 7:00 pm, the Lantex Theater in Llano and the City of Llano Main Street will present the first time ever, “Lantex Jamboree” featuring local country music artists who are generously donating their time and talents to raise funds to purchase new theater seating. Entertaining at the event will be local artists Eric Schuessler & Jenny Kelso from the Cadillac Gypsies, 11-year old McKenzie Jones, Garrett, Joel and Kevin Ratliff, Allan Ray Reed and Les Hartman who will also be emcee for the event, and Llano’s own “Bucille Snotgrass” will be drawing for door prizes throughout the evening. The historic Lantex Theater opened its doors on May 19, 1927. When the building burned in 1951, the Lantex was remodeled with the familiar 1950’s look that it still has today. The theater saw little change until the 1990’s after the City of Llano purchased the theater and Main Street volunteers spruced it up and opened the doors to the public once again, hosting the Llano Country Opry, movies, film festivals, school and community events and many other venues. Llano’s new Main Street Director, Tex Toler, along with a group of enthusiastic, dedicated and determined Main Street and community volunteers picked up the pace that was already begun by Frank Rowell and other dedicated volunteers as early as 2009, and they have spent hours, days and months working at the theater, and our Lantex has begun a magical transformation. “The restoration is breathtaking. It is like you have stepped back into time and can remember the warm feeling of comfort and anticipation that you felt as a child when the lights went down and that familiar music began right before the cartoon came on….and then the movie….and you sat there all safe and sound in your seat inside this wonderful, familiar, majestic place of entertainment in Llano, and all was well with the world.” A digital projector has been purchased through the efforts of volunteers who have held fund raisers and with funding from the City and LEDC. There is still much work to be done on the Lantex and new theater seating is at the top of the list. ALL proceeds from the ticket sales and concessions from the Jamboree will go toward new seats. Admission for the benefit is $20 and tickets are on sell at the Llano Chamber of Commerce & Visitor’s Center 325-247-5354 and Llano City Hall 325-247-4158 ext. 204. Donations for new seating can also be sent to Lantex Theater Seating, c/o City of Llano, 301 West Main Street, Llano, Texas 78643. “We are all so grateful to the local artists who have donated their time and talents to this event to benefit the theater, and the intent is that this first “Lantex Jamboree” will be the first of many featuring more of our local Llano artists.” Please come help get new seats for the Lantex while you enjoy an evening of foot stomping entertainment and a good time!
